Biography

Full Professor of Computer Science at Rovira i Virgili University of Tarragona, Catalonia, where he is the Chairholder of the UNESCO Chair in Data Privacy. He received with honors his M. Sc. and Ph. D. degrees in Computer Science from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 1988 and 1991 (Outstanding Graduation Award). He also holds a M. Sc. in Mathematics. His fields of activity are data privacy, data security and cryptographic protocols. In 2003, he was a co-recipient of a research prize from the Association of Telecom Engineers of Catalonia. In 2004, he got the TOYPS'2004 Award from the Junior Chambers of Catalonia. He has authored 3 patents and over 180 publications, one of which became an ISI highly-cited paper in early 2005.
He is the co-ordinator of the CONSOLIDER "ARES" team on security and privacy, one of the 34 strongest scientific teams in Spain.He was the co-ordinator of EU FP5 project CO-ORTHOGONAL and of several Spanish funded and U. S. funded research projects. He has chaired or co-chaired 9 international conferences on security and privacy and is an Associate Editor in three international journals. In 2004, Prof. Domingo-Ferrer was a Visiting Fellow at Princeton University. He has also visited Siemens AG Corporate R+D (Munich), the University of Wisconsin and Katholieke Universiteit Leuven.

Biography

Tenured assistant professor at Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Tarragona. She received the Ph.D. degree in applied mathematics from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in 2003. Part of her doctoral and postdoctoral work was developed at San Diego State University, California. She has been with the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya and the Universitat Autònoma de Barcelona, and is currently with the Universitat Rovira i Virgili in Tarragona. Her main research interests are in the area of coding theory and discrete mathematics. She leads the subgroup COPRICA

Biography

Associated professor at Rovira i Virgili University, he is currently a member of the UNESCO Chair in Data Privacy. He got his title of Engineer in Computer Systems from University of Lleida in 1998, the title of Engineer in Computer Science from Rovira i Virgili University in 2000 and Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Autonomous University of Barcelona in 2005. His research focuses on the fields of cryptography (cryptographic protocols) and privacy. He has published over 30 works in international journals, book chapters, international and national congresses. Now he is part of the advisory board of an international magazine, and he has been a member of the scientific and organizing committee in several international congresses. He has participated in Spanish-funded and Catalan-funded research projects. He is the main researcher in two research projects funded by Rovira i Virgili University. He has also participated in several transfer projects, and he is the author of six patents, five of them international and in operation. He is a founding partner of three technology companies that have been awarded.

Biography

Junior Lecturer at Rovira i Virgili University of Tarragona (URV). He is currently a member of the CRISES research group. Dr. Martínez-Ballesté’s research interests are related to security in computer networks and secure applications. In 1999 he received a B.Sc. in Computer Systems Engineering from the URV. In 2002 he received a M. Sc. in Computer Engineering also from URV. In 2004 he received with honors a Ph. D. in Telematics Engineering from the Technical University of Catalonia (UPC). In 2004, he was a visiting researcher at LAAS-CNRS, Toulouse, France. He has authored more than 30 articles in journals and conferences. He is also currently working on innovative learning techniques in engineering and the European Higher Education Space.

Biography

David S√°nchez is a tenure-track lecturer at Rovira i Virgili University (Tarragona, Spain). He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from the Technical University of Catalonia (Barcelona, Spain) in 2008. His research interests are information semantics, knowledge acquisition, ontologies and the Semantic Web, and their applications to the anymisation of textual data. He has been involved in several research projects (National and European), and authored over 40 conference contributions and 20 ISI journals.

Biography

Agusti Solanas (Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain, 1980) is the head of the Smart Health Research Group and Associate Professor in the Department of Computer Engineering and Mathematics at the Rovira i Virgili University (URV) of Tarragona, Catalonia, Spain. He obtained his M.Sc. degree in Computer Engineering from URV in 2004 with honours (Outstanding Graduation Award). He received a Ph.D. in Telematics Engineering from the Technical University of Catalonia in 2007 with honours (A cum laude). In 2008, he worked as post-doctoral researcher in the CRISES Research Group. In 2012, he was a visiting researcher in the Department of Mathematics and Physics of the University of Rome Tre (Italy). In 2013, he was visitin researcher in the Department of Mathematics of the University of Padua (Italy). His fields of activity are mobile health, smart health, cognitive health, data privacy, ubiquitous computing, and artificial intelligence specifically: clustering, pattern recognition and evolutionary computation.
He has participated in several European-, Spanish-, and Catalan-funded research projects. He was the principal investigator in the URV of the EU Project SUAC3I, he is member of the Management Committee of the European CRYTACUS COST Action and principal investigator of the Spanish project SIMPATIC. He has authored over 100 publications and he has delivered several invited talks worldwide.
He has served as chair, programme committee member and reviewer in several conferences and journals. He serves as external expert reviewer for several National Councils for Scientific Research (e.g. The European COST Association, the Romanian National Authority for Scientific Research and Innovation, or the National Centre of Science and Technology of the Republic of Kazakhstan). He is senior membre of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM). He serves as Category Editor of Information Systems for the ACM Computing Reviews. Currently he is the vice-president of the Computer Society Spain Chapter.

Biography

Postdoctoral Researcher at the CRISES Research Group in the department of Computer Science and Maths at Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV) in Tarragona. He got his Ph.D. degree in Mathematics from UPC in 2010. He holds a M.Sc. in Mathematics and a M.Sc. in (Enginyeria Superior de Telecomunicació) from Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya in 2004 and 2005. These degrees were obtained as a student of Centre de Formació Interdisciplinària Superior, CFIS, UPC. He has carried out research stays in Centrum Winskunde Informatica (Amsterdam), Institute of Information Theory and Automation (Prague) and University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign. His research interests include cryptography, secret sharing, threshold cryptography, secure multiparty computation, matroid theory and information theory.

Alexandre Viejo is a tenure-track lecturer at Rovira i Virgili University (Tarragona, Spain). He received his Ph.D. in Computer Science from Rovira i Virgili University in 2008. He received a Master in Telematics Engineering from the Technical University of Catalonia (Barcelona, Spain) in 2007. Biography

Javier Parra-Arnau received the M.S. and Ph.D. degrees in Telematics Engineering from the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC), Barcelona, Spain, in 2009 and 2013 respectively. During his doctoral studies, he was a visiting researcher at NEC Laboratories Europe in Heidelberg, Germany, and also a lecturer of a course on telematics and communication networks.

From 2013 to 2015, he worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Information Security Group (UPC), and the Privatics Team within INRIA Grenoble, France. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher within the CRISES group at the Department of Computer Science and Mathematics of the Universitat Rovira i Virgili (URV), Tarragona, Spain.

His research work spans computer security and privacy, and attempts to leverage mature concepts and techniques amply utilized in information theory and convex optimization, to tackle the increasingly controversial problem of privacy in information systems from a perspective that is mathematically systematic and adheres to the principles of engineering optimization.

Biography

Aida Calvi√Īo (Madrid, Spain, 1988) is a Post-doctoral Researcher at the University Rovira i Virgili (URV). She received her B.Sc. degree in Statistics from the Complutense University of Madrid, in 2010. She also received her M.Sc. from the University of Santiago de Compostela and her Ph.D.degree from the University of Cantabria in 2011 and 2013, respectively. She has been a visiting Ph. D. student at McMaster University (Canad√°) and visiting researcher at Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (China) and West Paran√° State University (Brasil). Her research interests include statistics, operation research and its applications, mainly to engineering. She has co-authored eleven journal publications, eight of them in journals in the first quartile. National and International Abertis Chair Prize for her Ph.D. thesis, she has also been awarded, at the undergraduate level, several national and regional prizes, including the Spanish National Award for Excellence in Academic Performance.

Biography

Jes√ļs A. Manj√≥n works in the CRISES research group since 2006, in which he carries out management, administration and programming tasks. He got his M.Sc. in Computer Engineering in 2004 and a M.Sc. in Computer Security in 2008. He is currently the project manager of the European project ‚ÄúCLARUS‚ÄĚ, in which there are 10 European organizations involved and a global budget of 4.2M euros. Between 2007 and 2014, he was also the project manager of the Spanish project ‚ÄúARES-Consolider‚ÄĚ in which 6 of the most important research groups in the area of security and privacy in Spain participated and had a global budget of 5.5M euros available. Despite mainly working in the management area, he is also co-author of 3 papers published in international journals, 2 book chapters and 2 papers in conferences.
